Why not jobs
In the age we are building for, a company is a handful of people. Counting jobs would punish exactly the companies Whitmont exists to back.
Why not valuation alone
Valuation is the number everyone uses, so it says nothing about Whitmont in particular. It is set by others, years after the fact. It is a fine number. It is not the point.
Two numbers, every year
Published every year once there are companies to count, whatever the numbers say. If the second number is not among the best anywhere, we will say so.
- Total value built. The combined value of the companies that started in the Room.
- Value per person. That total, divided by the people who built it.
The standard we hold ourselves to
A five-person company worth fifty million is a more important fact about the future than a five-hundred-person company worth the same. Whitmont exists to make the first kind normal.
